Ludwig Gebhard (artist)

Ludwig Gebhard (born August 14, 1933 in Tiefenbach in the Upper Palatinate; † 2007 in Landsberg am Lech ) was a German graphic artist and sculptor who was best known for his graphics and linocuts. His works have been exhibited in over 120 solo exhibitions in Germany and abroad. He lived and worked mainly in Munich and Landsberg am Lech.

Life

Ludwig Gebhard studied painting and graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich between 1959 and 1965 , where he was also a master student of Ernst Geitlinger . After his studies he worked as a freelance artist in Munich and Landsberg am Lech. In 1983 he was a guest at the Villa Romana in Florence. His work includes painting, hand drawings, prints and linocuts. Gebhard also created marble, iron and bronze sculptures and designed tapestries and jewelry.

His works can be found in the Albertina in Vienna, the Kupferstichkabinett Basel , the Pinakothek der Moderne and the State Graphic Collection , Munich and in the Edwin Scharff Museum in Neu-Ulm . In 2013, on his 80th birthday, an exhibition with his works took place in the Ludwig Gebhard Museum in Tiefenbach, from March to May 2014 the Diocesan Museum St. Afra in Augsburg is showing a special exhibition with works by Gebhard with Christian motifs.
