Ludwig Hoffmann (born June 11, 1925 in Berlin , † 1999 in Munich ) was a German pianist .

Life

Ludwig Hoffmann received his artistic training from Bruno Hinze-Reinhold , Paul Weingarten , Richard Rössler and Hans-Otto Schmidt-Neuhaus . He took master classes with Marguerite Long and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, among others . In 1947 he won the Liszt Prize Weimar, further prizes followed in the next few years. In 1954 he began an active concert activity around the globe. Numerous recordings that he made for various radio stations are still waiting to be rediscovered. His work is only insufficiently documented on record, as he was with Telefunken at the beginning of his career, but never had a permanent contract with any of the major labels . The highly virtuoso pianist was a frequent duo partner of Ingrid Haebler . In addition to standard works, he also performed rarely performed pieces by modern composers. His Liszt play set standards and is still worth listening to today. From 1970 to 1991 he was a professor at the Munich University of Music . His successor is Margarita Höhenrieder . He was a member of the jury at over 25 renowned international competitions, including a. the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Liszt Competition in Budapest, and competitions in St. Petersburg, Montreal, Sydney, Bozen, Geneva. He also led master classes in Maryland, Munich, Rotterdam and Weimar. Ludwig Hoffmann was a member of the European Piano Teacher Association (EPTA) for many years and, as an opponent of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling , played a decisive role as a founding member. His brother is the jazz musician Ingfried Hoffmann .
