Ludwig Imesch

Ludwig Imesch (born August 15, 1913 in Randa ; † February 3, 1996 in Frauenfeld ; resident in Bürchen and Zeneggen ) was a Swiss teacher , editor and writer .

life and work

Ludwig Imesch was the son of Ernest Imesch and Maria, née Schwarz. He attended the Progymnasium in Bürchen and then the teachers' seminar in Sion . Imesch was a teacher in the canton of Valais from 1932 to 1942 and also worked as an editor for the Walliserbote .

At the end of the 1930s he attended courses in journalism and modern literature at the University of Munich and had been a writer since 1935. In addition to countless newspaper articles on language politics, Imesch wrote around a hundred short stories as well as numerous legends, poems, treatises, novels, radio plays, song texts and television film scripts. Imesch was a member of the Bernese Writers' Association (BSV).

Since Imesch could not find a job as a teacher in Valais, he moved to Frauenfeld with his wife Helene, née Schmid, and their children. There he taught from 1958 to 1977 at the primary school in the “Spannerschulhaus”.

Imesch devoted himself in High German and in dialect mainly to topics from his homeland, the Valais and the Walsers . He is considered one of the pioneers in maintaining and promoting the Upper Valais dialect. In 1984 he was honored with the AWMM Poetry Prize in Antwerp for his dialect works .
