Ludwig Neustätter
Ludwig Neustätter , also Louis Neustätter (born September 5, 1829 in Munich , † May 24, 1899 in Tutzing ) was a German portrait and genre painter .
Life
Neustätter was the son of a master tailor and was initially supposed to become a businessman. After training with the copper engraver Peter Latz, he attended the Royal Bavarian Polytechnic University in Munich. From April 25, 1847 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich and continued his studies from 1850 in the private painting school of Joseph Bernhardt . In 1852 he became a student of Léon Cogniet in Paris and went on study trips to Rome and Naples. From 1854 to 1864 he worked as a portrait painter in Vienna. He was a founding member of the Vienna Artists' Cooperative.
Around 1860 he began to paint genre pictures in addition to portraits. Ludwig Neustätter received important orders from Emperor Franz Joseph I and King Ludwig II of Bavaria . In 1864 he settled in Munich, in 1879 he came to Tutzing.
Neustätter was awarded the Bavarian Order of Michael II. Class .
