Ludwig Richter (literary scholar)

Ludwig Richter (born March 29, 1934 in Waltersdorf bei Zittau ) is a German Slavic scholar and literary scholar.

Life

Richter studied Slavic Studies from 1952 to 1956 at the University of Leipzig . In 1963 he did his doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin on German-Czech-Slovak cultural relations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Century. In 1979 he completed his habilitation with a monograph on development trends in Slovak literature since the Vormärz to become a Dr. sc. phil. In 1985 the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (Berlin) awarded him the professorship for Slovak and Bohemian Studies .

From 1959 to 1991 he worked as a research assistant and later as a research group leader at the Institute for Slavic Studies and the Central Institute for the History of Literature at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. After its dissolution, he worked from 1992 to 1995 as a project manager in the research focus on the history and culture of East Central Europe and then until 1999 in the humanities center for the history and culture of East Central Europe. V. in Leipzig. During this time he taught Slovak literary history at the University of Leipzig.

Richter is also a translator from Slovak and Czech and the editor of five prose anthologies.

As a well-known Slovakian, he was honored with the international study volume Slovak Culture and Literature in Self and External Understanding. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary, an extensive, exclusive interview was published in the organ of the Slovak Writers' Union.
