Karl Ludwig Rosenfelder

Karl Ludwig Rosenfelder (born July 18, 1813 in Breslau , Province of Silesia , † April 18, 1881 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German history painter .

Life

At the request of his parents, Rosenfelder was supposed to learn the watchmaking trade; but then he attended the Prussian Academy of the Arts from 1832 to 1836 and was a student of Wilhelm Hensel and Wilhelm Ternite . After he started with a “Narcissus who looks at his reflection in the water” and “ Rienzi in the prison at Avignon ”, which were bought by the city of Gdansk.

He was commissioned by the Danzig Art Association to paint "The liberation of the Danzig reformer Pancratius Klein from the hands of the bishops". After the exhibition of this painting he was made a full member of the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts . The Berlin Artists Association was founded in his studio in 1841 . In 1845 he became director of the Königsberg Art Academy . He held this office until 1874.

Ludwig Rosenfelder painted numerous religious and historical paintings. People and themes Joachim II (Brandenburg) , Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba , the Marienburg Order Castle , the German Order and - as murals in the auditorium of the Königsberg University - theology and medicine.
