Ludwig Schneider (journalist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Schneider (* 1941 in Magdeburg ; † November 3, 2018 in Jerusalem , Israel ) was a journalist and founder of the messianic news magazine "Israel-Heute".

Life

Ludwig Schneider was born to Jewish parents who survived the Holocaust unscathed because they were hidden by a Protestant sexton family in Quedlinburg. After the war, the family fled to the Rhineland, where Schneider found his Christian faith in Krefeld in 1960 . In 1974 he founded the association “Israel-Hilfe”, published its bimonthly information sheet “Jesus in Israel” and headed the Jesus House in Düsseldorf .

From 1978 he lived in Jerusalem with his wife Barbara and five children. There he founded an evangelical press center and published the monthly "Nachrichten aus Israel" (NAI) - today called "Israel-heute" - messianic magazine, which appears worldwide in several languages. He was the author of the Israel Yearbook and several books. His special personal concern was to bring the topics of God's work in the world , Messianic Christianity and mission to the Jews closer to people in lectures .

As a journalist, he criticized the one-sided image of the Jewish state in the German media, which was shaped by “Arab propaganda”. In lectures and in contributions for the broadcaster Bible TV he campaigned for understanding for the situation of the Israelis.

Controversy

Schneider's theological model was William Hechler . His position corresponded to that of Christian Zionism and can also be viewed critically with it. He is also accused of actively promoting the mission to the Jews with his publishing house and thereby actually promoting anti-Judaism .

According to Schneider, “Christian Zionism” is a word that is hostile to Zionists , as every Jew has the right to believe in the Bible and to believe as Jesus and the apostles taught. Unfortunately the church deviated from this teaching and sowed a lot of hatred , especially with Luther and his pamphlet against the Jews Ha-Shem Ha-Mephorasch . The Evangelical Church in Wittenberg is also not ready to remove the " Judensau " in Lutherstadt Wittenberg , which tourists particularly notice and which still exists in many other places in Europe. The world's indifference towards Israel, with all its UN resolutions, harms Judaism more than the few devout Jewish Christians who are tolerated in Israel. Mission to the Jews is a misnomer, since Jesus commanded the disciples to preach the gospel in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the rest of the world. That also applies today. Just as African missionaries evangelize Europe, European Jews and Christians can evangelize Israel, regardless of whether the state and the world allow it. The facts are all in the New Testament. Protestant theology of the past 200 years has harmed the Jewish good more than a few Christians who pray for and bless Israel. The tendency is to dismiss the Abrahamic religion of all people as a regional deity. Resolutions of the EKD are seen as representative of the entire population of Germany and thus Europe and the world. Jesus' service as a man was only directed to Jews and only after his resurrection, after Israel had rejected him as Messiah, did his command to evangelize the whole world go out. Paul had warned, however, that his people would be grafted into the olive tree as branches again and that Israel would recognize him whom they rejected: “If God has not spared the branches that naturally belong to the noble tree, he will not spare you either spare. ”“ The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone ”is the most frequently quoted sentence from the Old Testament. In his "Monotheism Series", Schneider pleaded in the last years of his life for a correction of the Hellenistic influences in Christian teaching (such as the Trinity or the understanding of "Logos" (John 1) as the second divine person) and emphasized the belief in the only God , the Father, as also announced by Jesus.
