Ludwig Thumshirn

Ludwig Thumshirn (born December 5, 1896 in Weißenburg in Bavaria ; † February 21, 1971 there ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). After the Second World War he was used by the Americans as district administrator . From 1949 to 1960 Thumshirn was Lord Mayor of Weißenburg in Bavaria, which was independent until the regional reform in Bavaria in 1972 .

Life

Thumshirn was born in Weißenburg in 1896. In 1920 he founded the Eigenheim housing association . During National Socialism , he was expelled from his civil service and arrested several times for his political activities and interned in the Dachau concentration camp .

After the Second World War he was employed by the Americans as the district administrator of the Weißenburg district in Bavaria . He prevailed in the local elections on April 25, 1948, March 30, 1952 and March 18, 1956 against his competitors. On March 27, 1960 he lost to Horst Lenz in the local elections . Before that, he said during the election campaign, with a view to Lenz's origins, among other things: “Should the Franconian free city of Weißenburg be ruled only by Prussia and Saxony for the 600th anniversary of its freedom at the head of the city administration? 74 years in his hometown.

After his death, Ludwig-Thumshirn-Strasse in Weißenburg was named after him.

He had a son of the same name Ludwig (June 16, 1921– May 10, 2015), who was also a member of the SPD .
