Ludwig von Ammon

Ludwig Johann Georg Friedrich von Ammon (born December 14, 1850 in Gunzenhausen , † July 26, 1922 in Munich ) was a German geologist and paleontologist .

Life

His father was a district judge. Von Ammon studied in Munich, Berlin and Würzburg. During his studies he became a member of the Academic Choral Society Würzburg in the Sondershäuser Association . He was also a member of the AGV Munich . After his studies he was at the Munich Oberbergamt, first as an assistant, from 1902 as Oberbergrat and then as Oberbergdirektor. He was also an honorary professor at the Technical University of Munich . He was the successor to Carl Wilhelm von Gümbel as head of the geognostic state research institute and continued its geological mapping of Bavaria. Ammon's assistant was Carl Emanuel Burckhardt .
