Ludwig Basedow , from 1833 Ludwig von Basedow , (* October 2, 1774 in Dessau ; † December 4, 1835 there ), ducal Anhalt-Dessau real secret council and district president.

Life

He was a son of the pedagogue Johann Bernhard Basedow (1724-1790). From the age of six to 14 he attended his father's school, the Philanthropinum in Dessau . A little later, in 1792, he began studying law at the University of Frankfurt , which he completed at the University of Halle .

In 1795 Basedow returned to Dessau and initially hired himself as a lawyer and court clerk , married in 1796 and in 1797 found a job as a secretary at the legal chamber. He later became a member of the Chamber of Commerce, advanced to assessor in 1804 and councilor in 1807. In 1814 he was suspended from these tasks and moved to the state government as a councilor at the judicial authority.

In the new position he was particularly concerned with the constant conflicts with the surrounding Prussia, especially the Prussian tax legislation. In 1828 he was engaged by the ducal commission with the final negotiations with the Prussian government, which finally resulted in a contract. Until his appointment as regional president in the Privy Council in 1831, he was involved in tax business.

Since he was now able to again establish an agreement between the Anhalt and Prussian tax interests, he was honored with both the Imperial Austrian Leopold Order and the Red Eagle Order .

In 1833, with the settlement of the noble coat of arms of the Mecklenburg family of the same name, he was raised to hereditary nobility by the Duke . This made Basedow the founder of the noble family von Basedow . He had several children with his wife Johanna Krüger (1776–1837), a daughter of forester Krüger . Of his two sons, the elder, Friedrich von Basedow , also became the ducal Anhalt-Dessau district president, but the younger, Carl von Basedow (1799-1854), became royal Prussian medical council and finally described Basedow's disease, which was named after him .
