Ludwig von Born , full name: Friedrich Johann Ludwig Arnold von Born (born January 1, 1832 in Lünen ; † March 9, 1899 in Essen ) was a German banker and entrepreneur.

Live and act

Born as the son of a businessman, Ludwig von Born married Christiane Marianne Amalie Lührmann , born on July 8, 1834 in Essen, died on January 21, 1928. He had six children with her.

Ludwig von Born founded a banking business in Akazienallee in Essen in 1864 in the house of his father-in-law Eduard Lührmann, the father of the founder Edmund Lührmann . A year later, he moved it to a new building on the corner of Kettwiger Strasse and Lindenallee. There were close business relationships with the industrialist Friedrich Grillo , whose wife was von Born's cousin.

On April 4, 1871, von Born founded the Minister Stein union in Dortmund with Friedrich Grillo and three other personalities from Essen . Since then, the Minister Stein colliery has borne the name of the Prussian Minister Karl Freiherr vom Stein .

Subsequently, on September 18, 1871, von Born, together with Friedrich Grillo and the trade union Wilhelm Hagedorn, founded the mining law union , which gave rise to the Unser Fritz mine in Herne , of which Born was a member of the first mining director .

In 1872 the Ludwig von Born banking house , which had already been described as flourishing and renowned , was converted into a stock corporation under Grillo's influence. In a merger with other small private banks, the Essener Credit-Anstalt emerged, which was merged into Deutsche Bank in 1925 . Ludwig von Born was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors and Friedrich Grillo as his deputy. However, after a short time, von Born was appointed director of the bank, so that the mandate of the chairman of the board of directors had to be suspended and Grillo actually took over. Von Born held the office of bank director until 1877.
