Ludwig von Liebenstein

Ludwig August Friedrich Freiherr von Liebenstein (born November 27, 1781 in Birkenfeld , Hunsrück , † March 26, 1824 in Durlach ) was an administrative officer and member of the state parliament of the Grand Duchy of Baden .

Ludwig von Liebenstein studied law at the Universities of Halle , Jena , Göttingen and Heidelberg . In 1800 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Halle . After completing his studies, he entered the Baden state service at the Emmendingen regional office. In 1807 he was appointed court judge and a year later in Mannheim court judge. In 1809 he came to Wertheim as a district councilor. After a brief break in civil service, he was appointed Oberamtmann in Hornberg in 1811 . In 1812 he moved to Lahr as senior bailiff .

In 1819, Liebenstein moved into the second chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly in Karlsruhe as a member of the Emmendingen electoral district . Von Liebenstein advocated the separation of the judiciary and administration, the public and the orality of judicial proceedings, as well as freedom of the press and jury courts.

In 1821 he was appointed to the Ministry of the Interior, but was transferred to the post of director of the Murg and Pfinz district in Durlach in 1821 because of his oppositional stance in the state parliament. The Second Chamber then elected him its Vice-President. His tomb stands in front of the west side of the Nikolauskapelle in the old Durlach cemetery .
