Ludwig Joseph Kamillus Zumbusch , from 1888 Ludwig Ritter von Zumbusch (born July 17, 1861 in Munich , † February 28, 1927 there ) was a German graphic artist and painter .

Life

Ludwig von Zumbusch was one of the two sons of the sculptor Caspar Ritter von Zumbusch (1830–1915) and Antonie Vogl (1838–1917). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Christian Griepenkerl and Carl Wurzinger , and from 1882 in the painting class of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , then at the Académie Julian in Paris with William Adolphe Bouguereau and the history painter Tony Robert-Fleury . He worked for the Munich magazine “ Jugend ”, for which he designed covers.

Zumbusch belonged to the Munich Secession and to the German Association of Artists, founded in 1903 . At their first joint annual exhibition in 1904 in the Kgl. He took part in the art exhibition building on Königsplatz with the oil painting The Infant .

In 1905 he was appointed professor at the Munich Art Academy. On February 17, 1905 he was enrolled in the knight class in the Kingdom of Bavaria .

The Sauerbruch family in Munich belonged to Zumbusch's circle of friends .

Zumbusch had married Julie Riemerschmid (1877-1947) in Munich on January 14, 1897 , the daughter of the chemist and manufacturer Heinrich Riemerschmid and Marie Lachner and the granddaughter of the manufacturer Anton Riemerschmid and the general music director Franz Lachner . The couple had a daughter and a son. Ludwig von Zumbusch has a grave in the north cemetery in Munich.
