Ludwig Gedlek , Polish Ludwik Gędłek (born June 30, 1847 in Krakow , † February 15, 1904 in Vienna ) was a Polish painter .
Life
Gedlek studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1861 to 1872 under Władysław Łuszczkiewicz , and thanks to the scholarship he received, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1873 under Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels and Carl Wurzinger . After completing his studies, he stayed in Vienna, but maintained lively contacts with Krakow. For the first time he showed his pictures in 1863 at the exhibition of the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Krakow, then at the exhibitions in Lemberg , Warsaw and Dresden .
In Vienna, Gedlek remained true to the Polish theme in his pictures, especially in the genre pictures from the lives of farmers and mounted soldiers. Almost all of the pictures showed horses. His pictures found a place in Austrian private collections and galleries, including those of Krakow and Lviv art lovers. Some pictures are in the collections of the Warsaw National Museum and in the Lviv Picture Gallery.
