The Aviation Museum Wernigerode shows 50 restored aircraft and helicopters in four halls on an area of approx. 6000 square meters. Parts, devices and equipment are also on display, including ejection seats , cockpits and navigation instruments , pilot equipment, engines and model aircraft from various countries. The exhibition mainly deals with aviation after 1945. The technology area also includes restored automobiles and diving equipment. In addition to large exhibits, sectional models and functional explanations explain aviation. A total of around 1000 exhibits are presented.

history

The museum was opened in the summer of 1999 with initially three large exhibits. Since then it has been continuously expanded. In 1998, 16 ABM employees began to restore the former workshop for the public. Clemens Aulich, landlord, owner and manager of the exhibition, was in charge of the renovation and privatization of the former Elmo plant in 1992 and discovered the hall for the museum. In the meantime a second hall was added to the exhibition. But even here it quickly became too tight for the 50 large and hundreds of small exhibits. Another extension began on September 21, 2015. The new exhibition hall opened on June 18, 2016.

Type of presentation

Visitors can take a close look at the exhibits, some of which are accessible. There are panels with the most important data for the individual exhibits. Sometimes also explanations of who flew the machines. You can see, for example, the jet with which Prince Charles flew or a helicopter with which the English royal family traveled. Audio guides for adults and a special version for children can be borrowed free of charge. Guided tours for groups of up to 25 people are available on request. A special feature is that visitors can also take a look at the restoration workshop. There is a restaurant and a museum shop in the halls.

Exhibits

Aircraft and helicopters from the civilian areas of air rescue , passenger and agricultural aviation as well as military aircraft are exhibited. One focus is three specimens of the star fighter . In addition, various components of aircraft and pilots' equipment are shown. Standing and cutaway models of various aircraft complete the collection. The latest exhibit is the Transall C-160 51 + 01 , which was on display at Ballenstedt airfield until the move to Wernigerode .
