Luigi Durante (born December 17, 1879 in Murazzano , † October 19, 1944 in Turin ) was an Italian football player on the position of goalkeeper .
Career
Luigi Durante was the first goalkeeper in the history of Juventus Turin , whose founders signed him in 1901. He worked as a painter , had a flashy beard and was considered an eccentric . The peculiar way of expressing displeasure with referees' decisions is legendary to this day. So he should often turn around to the audience, waving his headgear and Mi appello al pubblico! (Eng. I appeal to the audience! ) have called. According to contemporary witnesses, Durante is said to have shown his best performances very often in the second half of the game after enjoying champagne during the break, as was customary at the time .
Luigi Durante took part for Juventus Turin from 1901 to 1911 in the Italian football championship and completed 29 games. In 1905 he was part of the team that won the first Italian championship title in the club's history.
