Luigi Generali (born May 7, 1920 in Faido ; † June 26, 2005 in Lugano , entitled to live in Giornico ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Generali was born in Faido in 1920 as the son of a railway employee. He studied at the University of St. Gallen and graduated as an economist lic. oec. graduated from university in 1943. After completing his studies, Generali worked in the banking and industrial sector in Zurich and was director of the hydropower plants at Maggia from 1950 to 1985 and those of Blenio from 1956 to 1985, and until 1990 he was even a director of both hydropower plants.

Luigi Generali was a member of the Free Democratic Party. From 1968 to 1978 he chaired the cantonal party of the Canton of Ticino and was elected to the Ticino Grand Council in 1955 . After an interruption between 1957 and 1959, he remained on the Grand Council until 1976 and was even elected President of the Grand Council in 1967. In the meantime, Generali was also a local councilor in Muralto from 1956 to 1960. At national level, Generali was elected to the National Council in 1971 . In the parliamentary year 1978/79 he was President of the National Council . In the autumn of 1979 he was elected to the Council of States and held the position of parliamentary group president of the Liberals from 1975 to 1978. To this day he is the last male Italian-speaking President of the National Council.

In addition to his political activities, Generali was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Accident Insurance Company (Suva) in Lucerne , from 1983 to 1955 head of the Ticino Bankers Association and in 1990 co-founder of the Center for Banking Studies in Vezia .
