Mjory (also Miory , Belarusian : Мёры ) is a city in Vitebskaya Woblasz in the north of the Republic of Belarus with about 10,900 inhabitants. It is located on the east bank of Lake Mjory .
The city of Mjory is the administrative center of Mjory Raion . It is located about 190 km from Vitebsk and 245 km from the capital Minsk .
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1514. In 1691 the first Catholic church in Mjory was built of wood.
In 1864 the residents of Mjory took part in the January uprising .
Since September 1939 Mjory has belonged to Belarus .
