Dsisna ( Belarusian Дзісна ; Russian Дисна , Disna; Lithuanian Dysna ; Polish Dzisna ) is a city in the Vitebskaya Woblasz in the Myory Raion of Belarus .
The city is located on the left bank of the Daugava near the confluence with the Dysna . The city has 2,700 inhabitants according to an estimate from 2006. The population has decreased over the years.
history
In the 16th century, the Polish King Sigismund II granted August Dzisna city rights. From 1569 to 1793 the place belonged to Poland-Lithuania and came under Russian rule after the second Polish partition . After the First World War , Dzisna became Polish again and belonged to the Vilnius Voivodeship . During the Second World War , Dzisna was occupied by the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1941 , then by Germany until 1944 and again by the Soviet Union until 1945 and remained with the Soviet Union after the end of the war. During the German occupation, there was a ghetto in Dsisna from June 25, 1941 to June 14, 1942. A memorial commemorates the 3800 victims.
