Luís Andres Hernández Mendoza (born June 26, 1984 in Quíbor , Lara , Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan baseball player in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. The shortstop is currently under contract with Bridgeport Bluefish.

Career

Atlanta Braves

Hernández was signed by the Atlanta Braves on September 16, 2000 . At the time, the player was a free agent who was never selected in an MLB draft . For the next five years, Hernández played in the Braves minor league system.

Baltimore Orioles

On October 12, 2006, Hernández was taken over by the Baltimore Orioles as a player and celebrated his debut in the Major League against the Texas Rangers a year later . During the 2008 season, Hernández fought an internal duel for the shortstop position with Brandon Fahey . At the end of the season, Hernández only made 36 appearances, Fahey, however, played 58 times. At the end of the season, both players did not get a new contract and became free agents.

Kansas City Royals

Before the 2009 season, Hernández signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals , but was called to the squad of the MLB team in May of that year. Just two months later he had to vacate his place for the new signing Ryan Freel and was released at the beginning of 2010.

New York Mets

From 2010 , Hernández played with the Buffalo Bisons, the AAA minor league team of the New York Mets . From August 2010 he came to 17 missions in the MLB team. After strong performances, his season ended with an injury in September. The player had hit a foul ball on his right foot in the game against the Atlanta Braves and broke a bone in his metatarsus. One pitch later, despite the injury, he managed a home run . On October 14, 2011, he was released from the Mets in free agent status.

Texas Rangers

Luis Hernández signed on November 30, 2011 a minor league contract with Texas Rangers . There he played mainly with the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A team of the Rangers. In the MLB 2012 season , Hernández came to two missions as a designated hitter in the MLB, but without succeeding in a hit . On October 12, 2012, the Rangers released him to free agent status.

Cleveland Indians

After signing a contract with the Cleveland Indians on November 5, 2012, he played again mainly at Triple-A level with the Columbus Clippers . After the end of his contract in November 2013, he was again a free agent.

Bridgeport Bluefish

On March 29, 2016, Hernández signed a contract with the Bridgeport Bluefish in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, a professional league that is independent of the MLB and is based in the northeastern United States .
