Louise George Bachmann (born August 20, 1903 in Vienna , † June 17, 1976 in Bad Ischl ) was an Austrian writer, singer and organist .

Life

Louise Bachmann attended the teacher training college in Vienna and then studied organ, singing and music theory at the New Vienna Conservatory and organ, piano and harmony at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts .

From 1935 onwards she published essays and short stories in daily newspapers and magazines. Her first novel was published in 1936. Until 1938, Bachmann was a professor of music history at the Vienna Pedagogical Institute. She moved to Salzburg because her husband ran a factory there. She started out as a freelance writer. Her main subjects were historical-biographical artist novels. On the one hand, she was involved in the Nazi women's association in Salzburg and joined the NSDAP on May 1, 1938 . On the other hand, she retained her ties to the Church as a devout Catholic.

At the end of the war, her entire fortune was burned. Her library and her manuscripts were also there. Therefore, she moved into quarters in St. Florian Monastery . In 1946 she was able to publish again. The novels mainly dealt with well-known musical personalities. But she also described the life paths of religious personalities, such as the missionary Viktoria Rasoamanarivo from Madagascar, the mystic Wilbirg or the missionary Frederic Baraga .

Bachmann was married to the engineer Josef Pistorius.

Louise Bachmann and her husband were buried in the Döblinger Friedhof (group 36, row 5, number 10) in Vienna. The grave has already been abandoned.
