Lukas "Schubi" Schubert (born December 10, 1987 in Berlin ) is a German fistball player . He plays in the field and indoor season at VfK Berlin in the 1st Bundesliga North . Schubert was world champion with the German national team in 2011, 2015 and 2019, winner of the World Games in 2013 and 2017 , and European champion in 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Career

Schubert plays in attack. As the only left-hander in the team, he takes the position on the right attacking side. Schubert has run through all national teams since 2005. In 2006 he won the World Youth Championship in Chile, South America. In the U21 team he reached the maximum and won three European championships from 2007 to 2009. In 2011 he made his international debut and has been an integral part of the German national team ever since. Shortly afterwards he won the world championship in neighboring Austria with the German team . In the 2013 World Games victory in Colombia, he was also a member of the German team. In August 2014, as part of the European championship team in Olten, Switzerland , he secured the last title he was missing against the hosts.

With the club, Lukas Schubert became German field fistball champion in 2009. This title could be repeated in August 2017. In addition, Schubert won the German championship for the first time in the hall with VfK 1901 Berlin in March 2018. In 2011 ( Přelouč , Czech Republic), 2012 ( Berlin , Germany) and 2016 ( Linz , Austria) he drew attention to the international stage with VfK Berlin. Here you could achieve 2nd place in the IFA Cup. The greatest international success so far at club level was winning the silver medal at the Champions Cup in Mannheim 2017 , in Wigoltingen (Switzerland) in 2018 and in Pfungstadt in 2019. Schubert also won the silver medal in 2019 in Diepoldsau (Switzerland) for the first time at the Indoor Champions Cup win his club team.

At the end of September 2019, Lukas Schubert announced his retirement from the national team. He played a total of 90 international matches in the C, B and A squads.

Honors

On October 25, 2013 Schubert was honored for the World Games title in Colombia by Federal President Joachim Gauck for his sporting success with the silver laurel leaf . During a celebration moderated by Johannes B. Kerner , he received the highest award for German athletes. In 2017 he was again awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf, this time by Frank-Walter Steinmeier .
