Luke Mathews (born June 21, 1995 in Williamstown ) is an Australian middle-distance runner .
Athletic career
Luke Mathews gained his first international experience at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene , where he was eliminated in the semi-finals over 800 meters. Two years later he qualified over 800 and 1500 meters for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but was eliminated in both competitions in the first round . In 2017 he took part in the Australian 4 x 800 meter relay in the World Relays in the Bahamas , where he finished fourth in 7: 20.10 minutes. Over 1500 meters he qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated in the semifinals with 3: 40.91 min .
In April 2018 he won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in the final over 800 meters in 1: 45.60 minutes. Over 1500 meters he finished twelfth in the final with 3: 47.04 minutes.
Mathews was the Australian 800-meter champion between 2016 and 2018. He is a law student at Deakin University in Melbourne.
