Luke Winters (born April 2, 1997 ) is an American ski racer. He specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Winters is from Gresham , Oregon , and has a twin brother and two sisters. At the age of 16, he began to take part in FIS races in December 2013 , where he made his first appearance on the podium. The first victory at this stage followed in January 2014, in a downhill . On December 10, 2014, he started in the Nor-Am Cup for the first time . Over time, he gradually moved away from the fast disciplines towards slalom and giant slalom. At the end of March 2017, he won the US Junior Slalom Championship. The first podium in the Nor-Am Cup followed on December 15, 2017 in the Panorama slalom . Two and a half months later, he won the bronze medal in the Super-G at the 2018 Junior World Championships in Davos , behind Marco Odermatt and River Radamus . The first victory in the Nor-Am Cup followed on February 16, 2018 when he won the slalom in Stowe .

In the 2018/19 season of the Nor-Am Cup, Winter achieved five podium places, including two victories, which was enough for second place in the slalom and fifth place in the overall standings. He made his debut in the World Cup on November 18, 2018 in the Levi slalom , where he was eliminated in the first run. At the end of the season, he won the US slalom championship at the end of March 2019. Winters won his first World Cup points on December 15, 2019, finishing 19th in the slalom in Val-d'Isère , after surprisingly finishing second in the first run.
