Belait

Lumut is the geographical name for a group of settlements in the Belait district of Brunei . There are several suburbs and residential areas in Mukim ( sub- district) Liang .

administration

The area in which the settlements named Lumut are located officially includes several kampong (villages) in Mukim Liang. Each village corresponds to a postcode area. These units that belong to Lumut are:

  • Kampong Sungai Tali

However, the Belait District Office , which actually manages the communities in the district, only lists two villages in Lumut, namely Kampong Lumut I and II . Each of these kampong has its own mayor ( Malay ketua kampung ).

geography

The settlements are on the coast of the South China Sea . Some of the settlements stretch along the coast on the Jalan Kampong Lumut road , while rice-board settlements extend in the swampy hinterland of the Sungai Lumut , southwest of the mouth of the Sungai Karut . The western border is formed by the Lumut Camp military site on a lake, to the north the Brunei LNG factory on Sungai Kang closes the border. Further east is Kampong Sungai Liang .

traffic

The main artery of Lumut is the Jalan Seria – Kuala Belait . Lumut Bypass is a highway that forms the southern border. The Jalan Tutong – Belait and Jalan Malawaring roads connect the two roads from north to south. They run through the settlements of the Public Housing Area.

Rancangan Perumahan Negara

The resibrett settlements of Lumut are part of the Rancangan Perumahan Negara (National Housing Plan), a government housing project.

education

In the Lumut area is the Brunei Polytechnic School of Science and Engineering, which primarily offers training related to the oil and gas industry. There is also the Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Secondary School .

There are two primary schools (Lumut Primary School Sekolah Rendah Lumut ; Sungai Tali Primary School ( Malay Sekolah Rendah Sungai Tali ).

Religious schools are Lumut Religious School , Sungai Tali Religious School, and Sungai Taring Religious School . They provide primary religious education, which is compulsory for Muslim children in the country.

economy

The economy is determined by the petroleum industry . Lumut, the factory is Brunei LNG (Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas), a 130-hectare factory for liquefied natural gas (LNG) with an annual production capacity of 6.7 million. t.

religion

Zainab Mosque was inaugurated on May 22, 1998 by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah . It can accommodate 2,000 worshipers at one time.

history

Archaeological finds in Lumut suggest that people have lived there since at least the 14th century AD. Chinese and Siamese pottery, which can be dated to the time of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), was discovered in the vicinity of the Sungai Lumut. However, these finds seem to have been grave goods, so it is not certain whether people also lived there.

Attractions

The coastal settlements are on Lumut Beach . Part of the beach has been opened to the public as a park ( Pantai Perkelahan Lumut ), and there is the private Liang Lumut Recreation Club with a festival hall and water park.
