At the Reichstag in Worms , Luther was asked before the Emperor to revoke his theses . As is well known, he did not withdraw.
On May 4, 1521, on his way home to Wittenberg , Luther was kidnapped to the Wartburg to protect himself from his captors . Luther stayed in his safe hiding place in the Wartburg for almost a whole year and thus in absolute isolation. Thinking to himself, Luther is now and then plagued by the devil. But finally Luther got up and translated the New Testament into German. Finally, Luther leaves the Wartburg, the Reformation continues.

The documentary, which was produced by Interscience Film GmbH , was broadcast for the first time on June 27, 2007 as part of the ZDF Giganten docudrama series .
Later, the program was also shown outside the series with the title Martin Luther - The fight with the devil on the television station Phoenix .
In 2007 the film was also released on DVD under the title Martin Luther .
