Luther Church

The Evangelical Luther Church is a listed church building in Bochum in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The compact, cross-shaped central building made of roughly embossed shell limestone blocks stands on the edge of the Stadtparkviertel. The tower is set to the northwest. It was built with a flat apse and chapel-like rooms in 1911/12 under the construction management of Arno Eugen Fritsche . The former rectory and today's community center is connected via an archway. During the Second World War , the roofs and vaults were destroyed and restored by 1948. Six windows in the apse were walled up. The street front was highlighted by closed wall surfaces and diverse porches for the entrances and ancillary rooms. The gable with pilaster strips and flat friezes was crowned by a cross. The interior was arched ridge; Barrel vaults were drawn into the galleries of the cross arms .

Furnishing

Fritsche created the shell limestone altar and the font .

An apse fresco was reworked in an extensive painting by Heinrich Rüther .

organ

In 1953 the organ builder Bernhard Koch (Wuppertal-Barmen) built the organ . The Kegelladen instrument has 20 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The actions are pneumatic.
