Heinrich Rüther

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gustav Heinrich Christian Rüther (born September 5, 1866 in Nordleda ; † April 12, 1954 in Hechthausen ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and local researcher .

Life

Rüther was the son of the main teacher and cantor in Nordleda, Heinrich Christian Nicolaus Rüther. He studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Göttingen and Greifswald and was initially a private tutor. In 1886 he became a member of the non-hitting student union Göttinger Wingolf , and in 1887 in Greifswalder Wingolf. After the second theological exam and ordination by the Hanoverian regional church on August 26, 1892 in Stade , he was initially a parish collaborator in Mulsum , but was appointed pastor in Neuenwalde that same year . From 1912 to 1939 he was pastor at the St. Johanniskirche in Hamburg-Harburg . He retired on July 1, 1939, which he spent at Gut Ovelgönne in Hechthausen.

Rüther gained importance as a historian of the Neuenwalde monastery and the state of Hadeln . He was an active sponsor of the Men from Morning Star , for whose yearbook he wrote numerous articles. One of his main works is the document book of the Neuenwalde monastery published in 1905 . He was supported in his research by his younger brother Eduard Rüther , a high school professor in Hamburg. The work of the two brothers still forms a basis of knowledge about the history of the country of Hadeln. However, some of their statements have now been refuted.

Rüther was also a co-founder of the savings and loan fund in Neuenwalde. In 1903 he operated the reforestation of the Misselwardener Heide, which was named after him "Rütherforst".

Awards

In Neuenwalde the Rütherweg was named after him.
