Lutz Radtke (born May 17, 1962 in Koethen ) was a soccer player at Halleschen FC Chemie and at FC Carl Zeiss Jena . For both clubs he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association . Radtke is a seven-time GDR junior national player.

Athletic career

Radtke's first sports community was the BSG Einheit Köthen. As a student at the children's and youth sports school in Halle, Radtke joined the regional football focus Hallescher FC Chemie (HFC) at the age of 14. As a junior player he was active for the HFC in the junior league.

In 1980 he was part of the GDR junior national team , for which he played seven international matches that year. These included all three games of the East German selection in the historically last UEFA youth tournament. In all matches Radtke was used as a right defender. Even before the unofficial European championship, which was held in the GDR, he had already played his first league game for the Halle GDR top division team. In the match of the 16th league game on March 8, 1980, the 17-year-old came on in the 80th minute.

Until 1981 Radtke was still part of the HFC junior team, but also completed another twelve point games for the first team in the 1980/81 season. It became clear that the right side of the defense would be his regular position in the future. However, Radtke, who has meanwhile trained as a maintenance mechanic, had to wait several years for the status of a regular player in the first, although he was officially nominated for the GDR Oberliga for the 1981/82 season.

When the HFC had to relegate in 1984, the 1.75 meter tall Radtke had only played 48 of 115 league games since his first appearance in 1980. In the GDR league season 1984/85 Radtke managed to win a regular place in the first team under the new coach Olaf Keller . In addition to striker Uwe Machold , Radtke was the only player who played all 34 league point games. It took the HFC three seasons to return to the league. In the 102 point games Radtke was used 83 times. He played his most successful season in 1987/88. After the promotion, he now maintained his regular position as a right defender in the league, again played all 26 point games and scored four goals. In addition, he was nominated for the GDR Olympic soccer team, with which he completed three qualifying games for the Olympic soccer tournament in Seoul between November 1987 and April 1988. The GDR selection failed in qualification, however, to Italy. Radtke had to take a break between September 1988 and October 1989, but then returned to his regular position.

When the rigid change regulations of the GDR football association were relaxed after the turn of 1989 , Radtke left the HFC after 178 matches and joined the league competitor FC Carl Zeiss Jena for the 1990/91 season. The Jenaer planned Radtke as a replacement for the retired Ronald Szepanski . However, the newcomer was only used as a full-back in the first five league point games. With the end of the last GDR top division season, FC Carl Zeiss qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga . Radtke was still part of the squad, but was no longer used. In the summer of 1992 he ended his career as a competitive football player.
