Otto Wilhelm Lutz Zülicke (born October 2, 1936 in Bitterfeld ) is a German theoretical chemist .

life and work

After studying physics at the University of Leipzig , Zülicke worked from 1960 to 1962 as a research assistant in the Theoretical Chemistry research group at the Academy of Sciences in Leipzig with Bernhard Kockel , who also lectured on his dissertation , with which he received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig in 1965 . In 1962, Zülicke moved to the Institute for Physical Chemistry at the Academy of Sciences in Berlin , where he became a working group leader (department of theoretical chemistry) in 1972. In 1974 he completed his habilitation at theHumboldt University of Berlin . In his habilitation thesis he examined the application of the Hellmann-Feynman theorem in quantum chemistry . In 1976 and 1977 he was a visiting scientist at the Institute for Chemical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow . In 1977 he acquired the facultas docendi from the University of Leipzig, and in 1978 he became a professor at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. In 1986 Angela Merkel did her doctorate with him . In 1990/91 Zülicke was the managing director of the Central Institute for Physical Chemistry at the Academy of Sciences. In 1993 he became a full professor at the Institute for Chemistry at the University of Potsdam . He has now retired.

In 1975 he was awarded the Friedrich Wöhler Prize of the GDR Chemical Society (with Hans-Joachim Timpe). In 1980 he received the Joint Prize (Category I) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR and the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences , in 1987 the Van't Hoff Medal of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. From 1990 to 1992 he was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR .

His research areas are theoretical chemistry, molecular structure and dynamics .
