Luxus is the eighth studio album by the German rock musician Herbert Grönemeyer . It was released by EMI Music in 1990.

background

The recordings of Luxus began at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall , in November 1989. After the great success of the pop-influenced record Ö , Grönemeyer wanted to show that he could continue to tackle serious issues. So he could not share the euphoria of the reunification , which shows in the piece of hard money , with which he wanted to draw attention to an impending sell-off in the East. Your love sticks too , video and friends are critical songs. Marie, on the other hand, is a declaration of love to his newborn daughter.

A music video was also shot for the title track Luxus .

reception

Sales of the album could not match the success of Ö , but with over a million records sold, the album has been one of the best-selling albums in Germany since 1975. The Rezensator.de website said: “Overall, Grönemeyer cannot really convince with luxury . Lyrically, Grönemeyer offers interesting things, but musically it all seems anachronistic ”.
