Mixed feelings is the fourth studio album by German rock musician Herbert Grönemeyer . The work created in 1983 in collaboration with Edo Zanki was so commercially unsuccessful that Intercord Ton GmbH Grönemeyer terminated the contract after this work.
background
At the time of its release, Grönemeyer's choice of topics was unusual for a mainstream German rock music album. His catchy pop songs dealt with disability , suicide , Turkish guest workers and other socio-political issues that had previously been dealt with by songwriters or punk bands in Germany.
Mixed feelings must be seen as a first respectable success for the artist: After three albums that did not make it into the German album charts, Grönemeyer reached number 43 with this record. Two single releases, the music that later became a disco classic only when it is loud and Buy , however, could not place themselves in German-language charts.
All titles except I just loved you and Hello, what are you doing were written entirely by Herbert Grönemeyer. I just loved you comes from the pen of Stephan Sulke . Hello, what are you doing arose from the collaboration with the Berlin composer, guitarist and member of the band Bleibtreu Revue, Werner Bohl. The album, which initially appeared on LP and MC, was re-released several times in the course of further, greater successes of the artist, also on CD and within the CD box Die First Four . On the album Take That - Almost (1979 - 1983) , a best-of compilation of the early years of the artist kept the record company in the early 1990s in addition to music only if it is loud only the pieces mocha eyes , diamond and Onur a re-release value. The single Buy is not on this compilation. On the double CD Was muss muss muss published in 2008, the two singles found music only when it is loud and buy use.

Music only when it's loud
The piece is about a deaf girl who perceives loud music through vibrations and who is unlikely to love it. The song was released as a single, but didn't make it into the charts. It later became a success in German discotheques, appeared years after its publication on an edition of the sampler series Fetenhits and was played more often on the radio.
to buy
Buying is a song that is critical of consumption. It is about the buying process that is described as "beautiful" and the desire to "always go to buy". What is bought is meaningless and also not mentioned in the song. Later, the song was often heard as background music for TV and radio documentaries on the subject of shopping addiction . Buy was the second single from Mixed feelings and like the first was relatively unsuccessful.
Pieces re-released on later albums
In addition to music only when it is loud , three pieces from the album were re-released on the later best-of compilation So Gut:
Mocha eyes
Mocha eyes is a crude , final love song in which the lyrical ego only knows how to escape the "porn arts" and the "next fuck" with its once adored woman through suicide:
- You come in and see me commuting
- with a rope around my neck
- now it's over with sweet flirting
- i love you and all the lard
Onur
Onur was socially critical of the situation of a former Turkish “guest worker” in an increasingly xenophobic Federal Republic of Germany.
- lived with us for years
- has rebuilt for us
- a great deal belongs to him
- of our homeland happiness
it says in Grönemeyer's lines and
- first he was chosen, what did we woo him?
- now it's his fault that we don't feel better .
diamond
This piece is another drastic love song on the album, but in which the lyrical self finds greater fulfillment than in mocha eyes (“ in you I can lose myself, explode, capitulate ”).
