Lycium gilliesianum is a plant type from the genus of Lycium ( Lycium ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Lycium gilliesianum is an upright shrub that reaches heights of 0.8 to 2.5 m. Its leaves are hairless and 3 to 25 mm long and 0.8 to 3.5 mm wide.

The flowers are hermaphrodite and fourfold. The calyx is bell-shaped and hairless. The calyx tube becomes 0.7 to 1.3 mm long and is covered with 0.4 to 1 mm long calyx lobes. The crown is tubular-inversely conical, spreading and colored yellow-green. The corolla tube reaches a length of 10 to 15.5 mm, the corolla lobes are 1 to 2 mm long. The stamens are finely haired at the base.

The fruit is a red or dark purple, egg-shaped berry that has a constriction. It becomes 5 to 10 mm long and 7 mm wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is common in the Argentine provinces of Buenos Aires , Córdoba , Chubut , La Pampa , La Rioja , Mendoza , Rio Negro , Neuquen , Salta , San Luis and Santa Cruz .

Systematics

Due to morphological similarities, it was assumed that the species is closely related to Lycium fuscum , since both species have relatively long, tubular-inverted conical, four-fold and yellow-green colored crowns. Molecular biological studies could not confirm this relationship.
