Poetry / prose / fairy tale award AKUT

The AKUT poetry / prose / fairy tale award is an Austrian literary award .

The aim of the prize awarded by the municipality of Alberndorf in Riedmark together with the Linz cultural association, Friends of Contemporary Poetry , is to promote contemporary authors who write poetry , prose and their own fairy tales in German .

Participation is limited to authors residing in Upper Austria . Texts in Upper Austrian dialect can also be submitted. The prize, which has been awarded annually since 2007, is endowed with 2000 euros.

Regulations, jury, prizes

Unpublished texts are accepted, the length of which is limited to a maximum of three A4 pages for prose and fairy tale texts and a maximum of six poems. Poetry, prose and fairy tales by one author may not exceed a total of four A4 pages. The prize is awarded in the categories “Poetry and Prose” and “Fairy Tales”.

The submitted work will be evaluated by an international jury , which will select the winner and two other award winners for each of the two categories. The changing jury consists of several writers and German scholars. In 2010 the jury for the "AKUT 10" consisted of the following people:

The award will be presented at a public event during the annually since 2003 taking place in summer A lberndorfer Ku l t urtage ( "acute"), in which the winners can present their texts in public. The prizes for each category are 500 euros for the 1st prize, 300 euros for the 2nd prize and 200 euros for the 3rd prize. In addition, special prizes and certificates of appreciation for appealing contributions are sometimes awarded according to the decision of the jury.

The best contributions will be published in an anthology . So far, three such anthologies have been published, each of which was published by Freya publishing house in Linz . While the first anthology contained texts by 15 authors, a total of 78 authors are represented in the third part of the book series.

The Alberndorfer Prose / Poetry / Fairy Tale Prize AKUT contributes to the promotion of contemporary dialect poetry and prose ("New Dialect") in the Austrian state of Upper Austria and is one of the few prizes of this kind. About the literary prize and the "diverse literary contributions [...] Upper Austrian Authors ”is regularly reported nationwide in the media .
