Mária Németh , married Maria Grünauer (born March 13, 1897 in Körmend ; † December 28, 1967 in Vienna ) was an Austro- Hungarian opera singer ( soprano ) as well as an important Mozart, Verdi and Puccini interpreter.

Life

Németh attended the commercial school in Bratislava and from 1921 studied singing in Budapest, among others with Georg Anthes and Géza László , and in Naples and Milan. In 1923 she made her debut at the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest. From 1924 to 1942/46 she was a member of the Vienna State Opera . Németh had numerous international guest performances, for example, in 1927/28 in Dresden and worked 1926/ 1927 and 1929/30 at the Salzburg Festival with. From 1953 she worked as a singing teacher.

In 1932 Németh was appointed chamber singer and in 1955 an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera . In her honor, the City of Vienna has named a street in Simmering after her name (Nemethgasse).

Németh is buried together with her husband in an honorary grave in the Döblinger Friedhof (group 32, row 1, number 1A).
