The former rural community of Mäetaguse ( Mäetaguse vald ) was in Ida-Viru County in northeast Estonia . In 2017 it was merged with four other rural communities to form the rural community of Alutaguse .

The rural community covered an area of 285.04 km². It had 1519 inhabitants (as of 2010). The population density was 6 people per square kilometer.
The landscape in the center of the Ida-Viru district is characterized by numerous untouched forests, moors, lakes and rivers.

In addition to the main town Mäetaguse ( Mäetaguse alevik ) belonged to the rural community of the villages Apandiku , Aruküla , Arvila , Atsalama , Ereda , Jõetaguse , Kalina , Kiikla , Liivakünka , Metsküla , Mäetaguse , Pagari , Rajaküla , Ratva , Tarakuse , Uhe , VÄIKE-PUNGERJA , Võhma , Võide and Võrnu .
Good Mäetaguse
Of particular interest, the 1542 first mentioned manor of is Mäetaguse (German Mehntack ). Today's main building was built in 1796 by the Baltic German Eugenius Octave von Rosen. It was rebuilt in the classicism style in 1890 and furnished with a rich interior.
