Kalina is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Alutaguse (until 2017 Mäetaguse ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 88 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011).

Kalina was first mentioned in a document in 1241. In the 17th century an estate was founded near the village that belonged to the noble Baltic German family Rosen .

The place is located in a karst area . The bog of Kalina ( Kalina soo ) is known to nature lovers . On its eastern edge lies the four hectare Kalina Lake ( Kalina järv ).
