Roostoja is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Alutaguse ( Tudulinna until 2017 ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 31 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011).

It is located on the small stream of the same name, the Roostoja oja . Its name comes from the reddish (because it contains iron) bog water that comes from the nearby marshland.

A memorial stone in the village commemorates the residents of Roostoja, who died as a result of Stalinism between 1941 and 1956.
