Kuru is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Alutaguse (until 2017 Iisaku ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 57 inhabitants (as of October 16, 2010). It is located on the north shore of Lake Peipsi ( Peipsi järv ) with its sandy beaches. The five kilometer long Kuru stream ( Kuru oja ) flows into Lake Peipus near the village .

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1426. One of the oldest Coniferopsida in Estonia is located in Kuru , an approx. 370 year old Scots pine . The tree is seven meters high and three meters in diameter.
