Ereda is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Alutaguse ( Mäetaguse until 2017 ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 73 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011).

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1420. The estate was founded around the middle of the 15th century.

During the National Socialist German occupation of Estonia (1941–1944) there was a prisoner and concentration camp in the area. A memorial by Peeter Somelar , erected in 1967 and dedicated to the victims of fascism, commemorates the fate of the prisoners . In 2005, another memorial belonging to the Jewish community of Ida-Viru County was added.
