Marta Torén

Märta Torén (born May 21, 1925 in Stockholm , † February 19, 1957 ) was a Swedish actress .

Life

Torén is the daughter of Helge Torén and Dagny Frisell. She had her first small film appearance in 1942 in the Swedish film Rospiggar . She went to Hollywood and was signed to Universal Studios for three years . She made her Hollywood debut in 1948 in the film Casbah - Forbidden Alleys alongside Peter Lorre and Yvonne De Carlo . On June 13, 1949, it graced the front page of Life magazine . She played one of her best-known roles, now under contract with Columbia Pictures , in 1951 as Violette at the side of Humphrey Bogart and Lee J. Cobb in the US production Sirocco - Between Cairo and Damascus by director Curtis Bernhardt .

The following year she became an American citizen and married the film producer Leonardo Bercovici. In 1953 she moved to Rome with her husband and had a daughter. She now worked increasingly in European films. Her last film appearance was alongside Amedeo Nazzari , directed by César Fernández Ardavín, in the Spanish-Italian production La puerta abierta in 1957. After returning to her roots and returning to theater in Stockholm, she suddenly died at the age of only 31 Years from a cerebral haemorrhage.
