Reviews

“Somewhat reminiscent of“ Casablanca ”spy story from the colonial war, which gives Humphrey Bogart the opportunity to play a cynical arms dealer in a trench coat similar to Rick Blaine. Bogart's company Santana produced. The template was the novel "Der Gnadenschuss" by Joseph Kessel (Belle de Jour) . The relatively realistic drama about money, betrayal and love was directed by Curtis Bernhardt, who specialized in Hollywood melodramas (“Purgatory”, “Unrestrained Love”). Lee J. Cobb as Feroud has the second leading role. "

“The story of a seedy American arms dealer who got rich and died in the Syrian rebellion against the French mandate around 1925. An adventure story between realism and romanticism, staged in a rambling manner and without a great atmosphere. "
