Mühlen is one of six farmers in the Steinfeld municipality in the Vechta district ( Oldenburger Münsterland ). The place lies between the municipality of Steinfeld and the city of Lohne . The place got its name from the watermills of the place, one of which is still preserved today.
The place gained fame through the brothers Alwin , Paul and Werner Schockemöhle , who own a stud there. Today Mühlen has almost as many horses as there are inhabitants.
In Mühlen there is also a Franciscan monastery right next to the neo-Romanesque church of St. Bonaventura. In 1981, the former Basque monk Xabier Egaña left several murals in the style of Pablo Picasso in the transept and side aisles of the monastery church . Next to the church is the XII. Station of the Cross as a Calvary has been reconstructed. The building was consecrated on August 20, 2011.
A former seafaring school can be visited in Mühlen.
A shooting festival and a parish festival are held annually. The local sports club is called Grün Weiß Mühlen and, in addition to soccer, also offers handball, table tennis and health sports .
Mühlen has a train stop on the Delmenhorst – Hesepe railway line , to which the RB 58 runs every hour.
