The Mühlenbach is a good four and a half kilometer long sand-shaped lowland stream in the Ruhr Valley , as well as a southern and left tributary of the Ruhr in the area of ​​the Mühlheim districts of Mintard and Saarn in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The Mühlenbach rises in the Mülheim district of Mintard at the Mintarder Höfe at an altitude of 40  m above sea level. NHN in a meadow south of the BAB 52 and directly west of the L 62. Its source is in the conservation area - Ruhr lowlands between Menden and Mintard near the stud Breithof -

The stream first crosses under the Mintarder Ruhrtalbrücke and then flows through meadows of the Auf'm Hofacker corridor in a north-westerly direction and east past the Niedener Hof riding facility . To the north of the riding stables it forms a tiny pond and immediately afterwards the Schmitterbach flows towards it on its left . On some maps the Mühlbach itself is also called "Schmitterbach".

The mill stream running then, accompanied by Ruhrauenweg 'through the corridor Flachsrott and feeds where a second small pond. A campsite is located east of the brook in the Staader Loch corridor . The stream now flows more and more in a northerly direction through the Hopp Morgen and Auf dem Großer Driesch corridors . At the Am Kirschbäumchen corridor, it then aligns its walking direction to the north-northwest. He then moves through a small wood to the west past the former excursion restaurant Haus Kron with a campsite. On the other side there is the 106.3  m high Au-Berg .

The Mühlbach now flows through grassland past a small pond, then crosses the Ruhrauenweg in a west-northwest direction and then runs north along the eastern edge of the 47.5 hectare Ruhrtalhang nature reserve on the Auberg .

nature and environment

The Mühlenbach crosses the Saarn-Mendener Ruhraue nature reserve (MH-002) and the FFH area Ruhraue in Mülheim (DE-4507-301). It is a low water body. From the end of 2017, a renaturation of 460 m of the stream was carried out, in particular the straightness was reduced and standing water was created. The background to the measures was the European Water Framework Directive .
