The film accompanies Helge Schneider on his tours and filming, but also in his study, walking the dog and paddling on the Ruhr. Parts of an interview are always included. The viewer learns of Schneider's insecurity, from which he frees himself with improvisations. In addition to the well-known Helge Schneider, the ambitious and hardworking worker can be seen in him now and then, who takes on new challenges, for example when he is working on new music numbers with other musicians such as the beatbox artist Butterscotch .

criticism
The film website kino.de paid tribute to the director's ambitious aim of shooting a portrait of Helge Schneider who "consciously keeps his true personality out of the limelight". Contrary to the difficulties, however, “a multi-layered documentation full of comical scenes” was created, “which is precisely able to capture the artist's character”.
The epd film , on the other hand, judged that the “interviews, the observations behind the scenes” would look like “bland reality” “next to Helge Schneider's sparkling fantasy”. The film service said that the film provided a “bizarre 'home story'” due to the “rebellious” protagonist and the lack of interviews with friends and colleagues of the artist.
Awards
The film received the DEFA Foundation award at the Max Ophüls Festival . The reasoning states that the film is a "successful cinematic portrait" that "blows itself up again and again and precisely in this way does justice to its protagonist".
The film received the rating of "particularly valuable" from the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) . In the press release it is said that the film does not “press the portrayed into a form”, but “follows it in a dynamic flow” and thereby approaches “the many facets of Helge Schneider” without “demystifying”. With this, Roggon “more than did justice to both Helge Schneider and his art”.
