from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Munich Piano Podium is an international piano competition for young pianists aged 5 to 25 that has existed since 1998 and has been held annually since 2006 . The competition was held for the 18th time in 2018. The main prize is the "marble key" for the young piano talent of the year.

history

The organizer of the Munich Piano Podium is the association ›Dialog‹ Neues Münchner Kunstforum eV, which initiated the competition on the initiative of Ludmila and Simon Gourari . The discovery and promotion of young talent is named as the main concern. The name "piano podium" is intended to suggest that young pianists should be given the opportunity to perform. Usually there are no cash prizes, but invitations to concerts, concerts are organized and other engagements are arranged.

Conditions of participation and evaluation

Pianists between the ages of 5 and 25 are eligible to participate. At times the age limit was raised to 28. The participants are divided into five age groups. The age group determines the length of the audition program and the severity of the compulsory piece. Every year the organizers give the participants one or two works by a certain composer as compulsory pieces. In addition, the participants should present their own program. The natural and faithful reproduction of the works as well as the artistic expression of the interpretation are assessed. The main prize "marble taste" is only awarded if the expert jury unanimously approves it. There are also prizes for the best interpretation of the compulsory pieces, for the "beautiful piano tone" and for other criteria. The indication of the teacher and the naming of previous awards and prizes are waived in the sense of equal treatment. However, a prize is also awarded for outstanding educational achievement. The award winners concert concludes the competition.
