Marvil Thomas Shaw (born August 28, 1945 in Battle Creek , Michigan - † October 17, 2014 ) was an American , Anglican bishop of Massachusetts .

Life

After graduating from Alma College , Shaw studied Anglican theology at General Theological Seminary in New York , where he received a Master of Divinity . In addition, Shaw achieved a Master of Arts in theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC In 1971 Shaw was ordained an Anglican priest and then served as a curator at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Higham Ferrers , Northamptonshire . He then moved to St. James' Church in Milwaukee as assistant rector in 1972. Shaw then went to the Anglican Male Society of St. John the Evangelist and began writing several theological books in the years that followed. Shaw was elected bishop coadjutor on March 12, 1994, and succeeded David Elliot Johnson in the episcopal office of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts when he died in January 1995. The episcopal ordination took place on September 24, 1994 by Edmond Lee Browning and David Elliot Johnson and Barbara Clementine Harris .
