A test run without passengers will take place between the stations Şişhane and Yenikapı until the opening in the first quarter of 2014.
history
Construction work on the M2 began on August 19, 1992. The first section between Taksim Square and 4th Levent had six stations and was put into operation on September 16, 2000. On January 31, 2009, the line was extended at both ends: in the south by one station to Şişhane and in the north by three stations to Ataturk Oto Sanayi. On September 2, 2010, the Darüşşafaka station was opened at the northern end and the Seyrantepe station has been served since November 11, 2010. On May 22, 2011, the last stretch to Hacıosman was opened, with the line taking its current shape with a total of 23.5 kilometers and is currently used by 230,000 passengers a day.
The M2 is shown on the network plans of the operator İstanbul Ulaşım with the identification color dark green .
Vehicles and technology
The rolling stock on the M2 consists of trains from the French company GEC-Alsthom and sets of Korean type. The latter, however, were made in Adapazari (Turkey). The trains are supplied with energy by a lateral conductor rail and, like all other Istanbul metro lines, run on tracks with a gauge of 1435 mm ( standard gauge ).
course
The M2 line begins in Yenikapı. There is a connection to the M1 A , M1 B metro lines and the S-Bahn. It passes the historic peninsula to the north and then crosses the Golden Horn on the Metro bridge over the Golden Horn . The M2 passes under Taksim Square, where you can change to the nostalgic tram line T5 , which runs over the İstiklal Caddesi shopping street , and to the F1 funicular .
From here the route follows Halaskargazi Caddesi north-east and then passes under the Levent business district . In Levent you can change to the M6 metro line. At the station Sisli is located in a distance of 500 meters fußläufigen a transition to Metrobüs linking the European and the Asian side of Istanbul. A junction with a shuttle train leads west to the Seyrantepe terminus, near which the Türk Telekom Arena is located. The main line continues in a northeast direction under Büyükdere Caddesi and finally ends in the northern terminus Hacıosman.
The stretch of the M2 ran completely underground up to its southern extension. With the completion of the southern section to Yenikapı, there is now also an above-ground section in which the Golden Horn is crossed on a bridge.
Expansion and expansion
With the completion of the new main train station in Yenikapı, the M2 has been extended by three stations to the southwest. The Golden Horn is crossed by a bridge on the way there. The Haliç train station was set up on this bridge, giving the districts west and east of the Golden Horn access to the rapid transit network. The historic peninsula is accessed through the Şehzadebaşı station, where you can change to the T1 tram line . At the Yenikapı terminus, passengers can transfer to the M1 A and M1 B lines , which go to Ataturk Airport. You can also change to the transcontinental S-Bahn network of Marmaray , the long-distance trains of the TCDD and ferries.
