M37 (trunk road)
The M37 is a major trunk road that runs through Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan . It is part of Europastrasse 60 and Asian Highway 5 .
course
The M37 runs in an east-west direction between Türkmenbaşy in western Turkmenistan and Samarqand in Uzbekistan. From Türkmenbaşy, which is an important center for goods and passenger traffic in Turkmenistan due to the port of Turkmenbaşy , the road initially runs in a south-easterly direction through Balkanabat and Bereket . The Turkmen capital Ashgabat is reached via Serdar , the fifth largest city in the country . This is where the M37 meets several other highways, including the P1, which is an important north-south link in Turkmenistan.
The M37 leads through the Karakum desert via the oasis town of Tejen to Mary . In the further course of the route, the M37 leads north-east, including through Turkmenistan's second largest city, Turkmenabat . A bridge in the presence of the President of Turkmenistan on March 7, 2017 Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his counterparts from Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was opened, which is Amudarja crossed. 15 kilometers behind this bridge is the Turkmen-Uzbek border, behind which the M37 continues in a north-easterly direction to Buxoro . From there, the road heads east to Samarqand, where it ends.
meaning
In Turkmenistan in particular, the M37 is one of the few well-developed highways of immense importance for road traffic. Apart from a few roads in the immediate vicinity of the capital Ashgabat, there are hardly any roads in Turkmenistan that are comparably well developed. The M37 is also an important link for trade and connects many of the region's most important economic and trade centers with the port city of Türkmenbaşy, the economic center of Ashgabat, Turkmenabat with its important port on Amu Darya and the commercial center of Samarqand.
The road is also of great importance for the tourist development of the region, as many of the most important sights of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are located along the M37.
International roads
The M37 is part of the European route 60 , which runs from Brest in France to Irkeschtam in Kyrgyzstan . The M37 also forms part of the Asian Highway 5 , which connects Shanghai in the People's Republic of China with Edirne in Turkey .
