This is a list of cities in Turkmenistan .
The table shows the cities with a population of more than 8,000, the results of the census of January 12, 1989, a calculation for January 1, 2010, and the higher-level administrative unit ( province ; Turkmen welaýat , Plur. Welaýatlar ; cf. Turkish Vilâyet ) to which the city belongs. Ashgabat forms its own capital district and does not belong to any province. The population figures refer to the actual city without the suburbs.
